~Six of the Best~

28th April 2007

I was camping at Scotgate, Braithwaite. It was a short, out of season, escape for me and I was rather surprised to be charged a single person suppliment by the proprietor. I'd been coming to the site for more years than I care to remember and might have expected the surcharge only to apply at peak time. Moving on, I decided to take a wander up Outerside and then onwards and upwards, I changed my plans during the walk. It was a good one .....

Outerside

When I took these photos in 2007, I wasn't planning on building a website. If I had been, I might have put a little more effort into the photography and story building. There are gaps in this story, but nevermind ...

The footpath is clearly in view on the left of the photo.

Wandope from Sail

Grisedale Pike from Sail

I didn't know it at the time, but the Grisedale Pike ridge on view would be part of my walk later on.

Around about now I decided to abandon the plan to descend to Buttermere and get the bus back. I can't even remember now if I'd checked the bus times. I realised that I could visit the highest six fells in the NW area in one go by going on to Grisedale Pike.

I descended down the N.East ridge and walked back to Braithwaite from the Thornthwaite area.

Richard's Refreshment Review: Spent the evening in the Coledale Inn. I've always liked this place and the atmosphere in the public bar. Good food, great beer.
